Join us in Illuminating the neighborhood on Christmas EveA Christmas tradition in many homes and neighborhoods is designating a night during the Christmas holiday to line their curbs with candle luminaries. This year, Silver Ridge will be celebrating our 4th Annual Christmas Luminaries. So, here's the scoop.Luminaries are free to all residents. We'll give you the white paper bags, sand and candles. On Christmas Eve, you need to pour sand into each of the bags, nest a candle down in the sand, place the luminaries along your curb and light the candles. We'd like the luminaries set out by 8 p.m. You just need to let us know how many luminaries you need. Call the Silver Ridge Homeowners' Association's voice mail at 407-293-4117 and provide your name, address, telephone number, the number of luminaries you need, and e-mail address. Count the number of sidewalk cracks in front of your home to determine the number of luminaries you need. Please place your order by Friday, December 13. You can pick up your luminaries on Saturday, December 14 and December 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the front entrance to Silver Ridge. Luminaries will be provided automatically to all residents of Silver Ridge Drive. We'd love to see our main road lit up on Christmas Eve, and as many of our side roads as possible. Let's show our community pride and spirit on Christmas Eve by illuminating our curbsides. Over 40% of our residents participated last year. Our goal is for 100% participation this year. Yard of the QuarterThe winner of Yard of the Quarter is Terry Dixon at 7451 Bordwine Drive. This yard always looks nice, and the lawn is a lush, green carpet. Nice work! The first runner-up is Raymond and Leyda Mojica at 2835 St. Clair Court. They have lovely flowers, new trees and a new mailbox. The second runner up is Chesly Cherizol and Daphne Adam at 2817 St. Clair Court. Their yard is maintained very well with really nice shade trees. Thanks to our winner and runners-up for all the hard work they have put in to make their homes look nice. Quarterly, the Architectural Control Committee elects a Yard of the Quarter. The resident who wins Yard of the Quarter receives a $50 Home Depot gift certificate. All residents are encouraged to vote for Yard of the Quarter. If you know a neighbor whose house and yard is the pride of the street, let us know! We'd love to hear your vote for Yard of the Quarter. E-mail your suggestion to acc@silverridgehoa.org or call 407-293-4117. All nominations will be forwarded to the ACC for consideration. Nominations for the next quarter must be received by February 15, 2003. Annual Meeting NoticeThe Silver Ridge Annual Meeting will be held March 27, 2003 at the Orange County Public Library in the Publix Shopping Center at the corner of Hiawassee and Silver Star. New officers of the Board will be elected. We will also discuss some possible amendments to our Covenants. You will be receiving more information about the election and amendments in the mail prior to the meeting. All homeowners are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be provided. If you have an issue you would like put on the agenda, call 407-293- 4117.A Message from HOA President Tony GreeneSeason's greetings, fellow homeowners! I am happy to have another opportunity to address Silver Ridge as your president. I trust that everyone has been pleased with the progress we have made over the past ten months with our new property management company. The board would love to hear from you on ways to improve our community and/or your feelings regarding the management of our community.Silver Ridge can only improve if we all get involved. With 442 homes in our community, we should have more than enough manpower to cover our various committee memberships. We welcome Emily Pierson to the Architectural Control Committee. Thanks for volunteering, Emily! Unfortunately, some of our committees are languishing due to a lack of volunteers. Three committees we would like to see active are the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Committee, Neighborhood Improvement Committee (NIC) and our Neighborhood Watch Committee. The CPTED committee needs to be formed to support the Orange County grant to improve our community we received this year. The Neighborhood Improvement Committee could seek contract discounts for roof cleaning, lawn re-sodding, exterior painting and fence repair. The Neighborhood Watch could help strengthen our community and afford neighbors avenues to get to know one another and provide an additional umbrella of protection for all that participate. There is so much more that can be done in our community. The more volunteers we have, the less work we each have to do. If you are interested in making a difference, or if you have any issues/concerns/comments, please e-mail the board at hoa@silverridgehoa.org or phone us 407-293-4117. Regarding violations, please be aware that community appearance is the Board's top priority and we are taking steps to address the top eight violations that continue to plague Silver Ridge. The Board has adopted a policy to address long standing violations through litigation and we have begun the process of turning over a number of violation issues to our HOA lawyers to force compliance. The three major factors for the Board decision for litigation will be: 1. The number of outstanding violations that exist, 2. The length of time the total number violations go unresolved and 3. Whether a formal written appeal to both the board and the property manager has been made by the resident for relief on the compliance timetable. The goal of this effort and process is to formally notify our violating neighbors that they are living in a Covenant and Deed Restricted neighborhood and that their violations and home appearance has had an adverse effect on the balance of harmony and peace throughout Silver Ridge. Hopefully, everyone will start to address the notifications within the allotted time and avoid this costly process. In closing, I would again like to wish everyone the best of the holiday season as well as a very prosperous new year. Sincerely, your association president. Silver Ridge thanks Tony Harrel for his years of serviceThe volunteers of the Silver Ridge Homeowners Association would like to take this time to thank Tony Harrell for his contribution to our community. Tony recently stepped down from three years of active service on the Architectural Control Committee. He also has been an active participant in our community block parties and Christmas luminary give-away in the past. His unselfish commitment to serve our community is to be commended. Furthermore, he has advised that he will continue to volunteer as his schedule allows. Again, thanks Tony for your volunteering and support for the betterment of our community.Tips to relax this seasonThe following are some suggestions on keeping the holidays stress-free:You can't do it all. So, why worry about it? Be realistic on what you can and want to do. Pick the things that are most important to you and focus on those. Even if it means you will be buying those cookies instead baking them, think of all the free time you will have for activities that you and your family will really enjoy! No one can be perky all the time. While you are doing things for others, don't forget yourself. Set aside some time for a long relaxing bath, an invigorating long walk or a refreshing cup of coffee or tea. Holiday family gatherings can be fun! The key to keeping it as stress free as possible is to accept you are not going to change anyone. Just enjoy them for what they are, and move on. When planning a stress free holiday celebration, it is a good idea to make a plan and be a little flexible! Having a "to do" list will help you organize what needs to get done and what needs to be bought, etc.. And just think how great you will feel as you check off each item on your holiday list! Try to do a much as you can in advance. You can cook and freeze many recipes to save time later. Plan for rainy days and bored kids. You can buy a few inexpensive puzzles, coloring books and crayons, then hide them away for rainy day occasions. That along with a few rented kid movies and popcorn can work wonders. Think positive and remember to have fun!! We have been collecting those for the past two months. On December 15, we will hand the surveys over to Dorinda Hoswe, our Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) consultant. In the meantime, Ms. Howe has been gathering information from our neighborhood. She has conducted three daytime surveys of Silver Ridge and our surrounding neighborhoods and one nighttime survey. She has also requested crime statistics for Silver Ridge from the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Once Ms. Howe has all of the neighborhood surverys and crime statisticis, she will begin our CPTED analysis. If you did not fill out a neighborhood survey, you can still to be heard. Please call 407-293-4117 and leave your name, address and phone number. We will bring a survey to you. Just remember - all surveys must be received by December 15.
